Delegates just wrapped up doing a break-out session. The purpose of the session was to get folks into small groups in order to hear from folks who might not want to go up and speak in front of 1,200 people. The questions asked were: a) What are the pressing issues facing education today? b) How can we get teachers and others to not only vote for Jay Inslee as governor, but volunteer for him as well? c) How can we increase WEA-PAC membership?
How can you get someone to vote for your candidate? Now that is thinking like the government! Sorry folks, you can't "get" people to vote for said candidate. Unless you manipulate folks.
ReplyDeleteAs for pressing issues, really? Too many to count much less discuss in an hour! TEA folks you should know that! :)
John here. I actually was a little put off by the meeting. It felt like a WEA-PAC meeting with the general membership. I understand how vital it is that we make sure McKenna does not get into office (did you hear that Stand for Education is endorsing him?), but the questions were very much focused on political action. I suppose that is where we are at now; being a union in today's age is taking political action. Sad we have come to this point. Just my thoughts.
